Travelodge Liverpool Edge Lane

Rated 3.5 out of 5

The Travelodge Liverpool Edge Lane hotel is a budget hotel in a suburban area around 4km (2½ miles) west of Liverpool’s city centre. The hotel is converted from a former office block and it is one of the newer hotels in the Liverpool area. Primarily because it is such a new hotel, it gets very good reviews from other customers and it is a step above your average Travelodge.

In January 2019 on the day construction on the hotel was due to be completed, this Travelodge briefly made news headlines as a disgruntled worker drove a digger through the doors of the hotel causing considerable damage to the hotel and postponing the opening of the hotel by four months. A video of the incident went viral.

Rooms at the Travelodge Liverpool Edge Lane hotel are a mix of double and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.

There are also some wheelchair-accessible rooms available.

Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods although in most cases this hotel is a cheaper alternative to more centrally-located hotels.

The suburban location means that this is a fairly cheap place to stay that is easy to get to if you’re driving but there are other suburban hotels in the Liverpool area with better public transport connections. Although it is only a 15-minute drive into the city centre, it usually takes between 30 and 40 minutes by public transport once you factor in the walk to the railway station/bus stop.

Although it is not the most attractive neighbourhood there are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby with a shopping centre only a five-minute walk from the hotel.

It is a 12-minute walk to Wavertree Technology Park railway station, which has four trains per hour to Liverpool Lime Street with a journey time of only 7–9 minutes. If you don’t fancy the walk to the station, bus routes 6 and 7 stop nearby on Edge Lane but the bus is a less frequent and slower option than taking the train.

This hotel has free on-site car parking, which makes it a good option if you’re driving. However, you need to enter your car registration number into a device at the hotel reception to avoid a parking fine or having your car towed away.

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
