Village Hotel Leeds North is a large modern hotel in an established suburban area northwest of central Leeds. It is a spacious place that offers plenty of parking and it also has excellent public transport to the city centre.
The hotel has 134 guest rooms, which are split between standard and club rooms. All rooms have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, an Alexa virtual assistant, ironing facilities and an en suite bathroom with a rain shower. Club rooms cost an additional £20 and give you access to the gym and a co-working space plus free parking.
Some of the hotel’s rooms are wheelchair accessible and all public areas of the hotel, including the swimming pool, are also wheelchair accessible.
It is a particularly good accommodation option if you’re travelling on business and don’t really need to stay near the city centre. In addition to a nice workspace inside your room, guests staying in the club rooms also have access to VWorks, which is the hotel’s own co-working space. This gives you a more vibrant working environment for those times when you simply don’t want to be stuck in your room.
The Village Pub & Grill is the hotel restaurant and although it has a touch more character than you would expect from a bar in a modern hotel, it certainly doesn’t have the cosy atmosphere that you would normally expect from a place that calls itself a pub. The hotel also has a branch of Starbucks so you will have to go elsewhere if you like to start the day with a decent cup of coffee.
The hotel also has an excellent fitness centre with a 25m (82 ft) heated swimming pool, a spa pool, steam room and a sauna. Access to the gym comes at an additional £5 charge if you’re staying in a standard room but it is free for guests staying in the hotel’s club rooms.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Village Hotels is a chain of hotels located mainly in suburban locations on the outskirts of large UK towns and cities. Village Hotels have a more upmarket image than most other suburban hotels and everything at the chain’s Leeds hotel is clean and well maintained.
It may feel somewhat bland when compared with some of the newer Village Hotels properties but compared with Leeds’ other Village Hotel, the Village Hotel Leeds North is a clear winner in terms of location. While the other Village Hotel has a bland location in an office park near a motorway junction with poor public transport connections into the city centre, this one is in an established neighbourhood with a small shopping strip just a few minutes’ walk away. The hotel is around 5km (3¼ miles) northwest of the city centre in Far Headingley, which is a leafy suburban area with an established feel to it. The hotel is located down a long driveway and it takes a few minutes to walk to the end of the driveway, where you can find a small strip of shops on Otley Road and a bus stop with regular buses into the city centre. Depending on traffic, it takes 15–30 minutes to take the bus to the city centre with buses running every five minutes or so.
Although it is a pleasant neighbourhood, the suburban location means that there are not many points of interest in the immediate area, although the Headingley campus of Leeds Beckett University is only a 10-minute walk away and Headingley Stadium (and the Yorkshire County Cricket Club Museum) is around a half-hour walk from here.
There is ample parking available but it costs £5 per day (free between 5pm on Fridays and 3pm on Sundays or if you’re staying in a club room).
