The Wheel of Liverpool is a large ferris wheel located just south of the Albert Dock area in Liverpool.
The wheel has 42 fully-enclosed pods, each of which can carry up to eight passengers. It is 60m- (196 ft)-tall, which is around the same height as a 19-storey building and a ride offers 360º panoramic views of Liverpool, the River Mersey, Birkenhead, Cheshire and northern Wales.
Compared with larger observation wheels, it seems to go around relatively quickly and a single ride on the wheel gives you three to four rotations.
Riding the Wheel of Liverpool
The wheel is located on Keel Wharf between Albert Dock and the M&S Bank Arena and it is around a 10-minute walk from the city centre. James Street station is around a 12-minute minute walk from here.
A ride on the wheel costs £13 which is fairly expensive for such a short experience but it does offer lovely views and great photo opportunities if you’re here on a clear day.
There is a very good reason why it is much cheaper than the London Eye and that is because it is simply is not as good. Even though the London Eye is also overpriced, it somehow feels a better value experience than a ride on the Wheel of Liverpool.
It is open till the early evening (with late-night operation on evenings when there are scheduled night events at the M&S Arena) so you can see the city lit up at night.
Nearby points of interest include The Beatles Story, which is just a two-minute walk away, and the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Museum of Liverpool and Tate Liverpool, which are all less than a 10-minute walk from the wheel.
A ride on the Wheel of Liverpool takes around 10–12 minutes.
