Campanile Wakefield

The Campanile Wakefield hotel is a cheap place to stay in an industrial estate around 2.4km (1½ miles) southwest of Wakefield city centre.

The 77 compact hotel rooms are basic and include a flatscreen television and tea and coffee making facilities plus en-suite bathrooms. Beds are comfortable enough but there is only one pillow on the bed. Several of the rooms are wheelchair-accessible.

Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available but it comes at an additional charge.

There is also an on-site restaurant, which doesn’t look that special, although reports from other guests say that the food is much better than you would expect. Perhaps that is a sign of the hotel’s French management that put a priority on quality food even in a budget hotel. The hotel restaurant accounts for a large portion of Campanile’s business and in France, where 85% of Campanile hotels are located, 60% of customers do not sleep at the hotel and go there just for the food.

It is a cheap place to stay that is more or less identical to other hotels in the Campanile chain. The decor is spartan and it certainly isn’t anything special, but it does the job if you’re driving and need a cheap place to stay in Wakefield.

Like many other hotels in the Campanile chain, this hotel is located in a rather uninspiring location in an industrial estate away from the city centre. However, in this instance, it at least backs onto the Calder and Hebble Navigation, a canal that runs parallel to the River Calder.

There is not a lot of interest in the immediate vicinity around the hotel, although there are a couple of places to eat and drink around a five-minute walk away.

Free parking is available at the hotel and, although the location is best suited if you’re driving, there is a bus stop around a four-minute walk away that has regular buses into the city centre. You can also walk into the centre of Wakefield in around half an hour.
