Considering its relatively high standard of accommodation and close proximity to Central London, the Holiday Inn London – Whitechapel hotel is a good place to stay.
The hotel has 133 guest rooms, which all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flatscreen television, tea and coffee making facilities, ironing facilities and an en suite bathroom. Six of the rooms are wheelchair accessible.
There is a nice restaurant in the hotel’s lobby area that has a casual dining menu with items such as burgers, pizza, pasta and sandwiches. There are also several other places to eat and drink nearby, although the local neighbourhood is not exactly a gastronomic hotspot.
The hotel also has an on-site business centre and a small gym, which all guests have access to.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel is on a busy thoroughfare running through London’s East End. Although it is not a particularly attractive neighbourhood, the area surrounding the hotel provides an insight into the real East End away from the main tourist attractions and the hotel is within easy reach of Central London.
It is around midway between Whitechapel and Shadwell stations. Of these two, Shadwell is a little closer but Whitechapel has better connections into Central London. Both Shadwell and Whitechapel are served by the part of the Overground that was formerly the East London tube line, which is handy if you want to go to Shoreditch but it is otherwise not a particularly useful transport option. From Shadwell, you can also get the DLR to Tower Gateway and London City Airport and Whitechapel station has frequent trains into the heart of London and onwards to Heathrow Airport on the Elizabeth line plus tube services on the District and Hammersmith & City lines.
The bus stop on Commercial Road outside the hotel has regular buses into Central London and many guests staying at the hotel find this the best way to get into town as buses run every few minutes (every 10–15 minutes during the night) and let you see the sights from the top deck. Bus route 15 is the most useful of the buses that stop near the hotel and it is also one of London’s most scenic bus routes. It runs to Charing Cross station via the Tower of London, Bank, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Courts of Justice.
