Lansbury Heritage Hotel

In a part of London noted mostly for modern commercial and residential development, the Lansbury Heritage Hotel stands out as the only historic hotel in the area. It is located inside the Grade II-listed old Poplar Town Hall and council offices, which dates from 1870.

The hotel is named after George Lansbury, a local politician who was the leader of the Labour Party from 1932 to 1935 and who most certainly would have been familiar with this building when it was home to council offices. Incidentally, George Lansbury was the father of Dame Angela Lansbury, the actress noted for her role in the Murder She Wrote series.

It is a small hotel with only 29 air-conditioned guest rooms. All rooms are spacious with high ceilings, a comfortable bed, a writing desk, a sitting area, a large flatscreen television, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a power shower, bathrobes and L’Occitane toiletries. Most rooms range between 18m² (194 sq ft) and 25m² (269 sq ft).

The rooms, and the hotel in general, have a traditional-style decor that is in keeping with the historic aspect of the Victorian-era building.

The hotel’s restaurant and bar is a nice spot for a drink or a bite to eat. The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.

The hotel also has a compact fitness centre and a wellness centre with spa treatment rooms.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

Poplar DLR station is a four-minute walk from the hotel. This is a busy station with trains into central London as well as to Stratford and London City Airport. From here it is only an eight-minute ride to Tower Gateway (near the Tower of London) and it takes 10 minutes to get to Stratford and 11 minutes to get to London City Airport. Trains run every eight minutes or so.
