Although a station was first opened on this site in 1852, it was rebuilt in the 1930s in the Art Deco style that was popular at the time. The station has a ticket office and a Pumpkin cafe and there is step-free access to all platforms.
The station is located at the southern end of the town centre. It is around a seven-minute walk to the art gallery and museum inside the Royal Pump House.
