Legends Hotel on Brighton’s seafront bills itself as “the UK’s finest gay hotel” but it attracts all types of people and you certainly don’t need to be gay to stay here.
It is a relatively small 38-bed hotel with accommodation in a range of room sizes starting at tiny 6.3m² (68 sq ft) single rooms and moving up to larger 34.9m² (376 sq ft) suites. In general, rooms here are on the small side and most rooms are between 11.6m² (125 sq ft) and 13.5m² (145 sq ft).
Most rooms have flatscreen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms and many of the rooms also have lovely sea views.
The decor can vary a lot from one room to another. While some rooms are quite nice, others can feel a little tired.
Some guests complain about noise from other guests in the corridors and from the downstairs nightclub.
The hotel has a large terrace bar (which they claim is Brighton’s largest) and a basement nightclub, which is open every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and can get very noisy.
There is free (and fast) Wi-Fi wireless internet access throughout the hotel.
Legends Hotel is in Kemptown, a largely gay neighbourhood immediately east of the city centre. It is across the road from the beach with Volk’s Electric Railway, the Brighton Zip, the SEA LIFE Centre and Brighton Palace Pier all within a five-minute walk from the hotel. The Lanes, Brighton Dome, Brighton Museum and the Royal Pavilion are all a 10-minute walk away and the main part of the city centre is just a little bit farther. The hotel is only a two-minute walk to St James’s Street, Kemptown’s main commercial thoroughfare, which has a good selection of places to eat and drink.
