Metropole Hotel

The Metropole Hotel was built in the late 18th century and was one of only four hotels in Blackpool at the time. Not only is it one of Blackpool’s oldest hotels but it is also the only hotel in Blackpool that is located right on the seafront.

The hotel has 223 rooms ranging from basic single rooms to a suite with a grand four-poster bed. All rooms have a TV, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and en suite bathrooms and many rooms also have work desks and ironing facilities.

It is run by Britannia Hotels, which has a reputation for buying up grand hotels and then just letting them fall apart through neglect and poor management. In their defence, Britannia Hotels are generally cheap places to stay and, for a lot of people, they are the only chance they have to stay in a once grand hotel. However, this isn’t the case here as the Metropole is a considerably more expensive place to stay than most of Britannia’s other hotels.

Like other Britannia hotels, the Metropole looks and feels dated with fittings and furnishings that look like they haven’t been replaced since the 1970s.

It is not particularly well maintained either, with mould and peeling paint in many of the rooms. While there are some signs of attempts at maintaining the hotel, you can tell that the standard of maintenance is not up to par and there are definite signs of shoddy maintenance all around the hotel.

Wi-Fi wireless internet access is free in public areas and in the rooms you get two 20-minute free Wi-Fi sessions per day, or you can pay £7 for 24 hours unlimited access.

The Metropole Hotel is the only hotel in Blackpool to have a location between the Promenade and the seafront and it is also the best-located of Blackpool’s Britannia hotels. It is right next to North Pier and just a seven-minute walk from Blackpool North railway station.

Nearby points of interest include Blackpool Tower, Grundy Art Gallery, North Pier and the Winter Gardens, which are all less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel has 100 parking spaces, which cost £5 per night.
