The Royal Oxford Hotel on Frideswide Square near the railway station is a convenient place to stay if you’re travelling to Oxford by train and it is one of the few affordable accommodation options in central Oxford.
The Royal Oxford Hotel has 26 guest bedrooms, all rooms are air-conditioned and have flatscreen televisions, free bottled water and fruit and tea and coffee making facilities as well as en-suite bathrooms. There is free Wi-Fi wireless internet access throughout the hotel.
The decor is what would have been described as contemporary in the 1980s but now feels a little dated. However, it is clean and well maintained and much nicer inside than first impressions would lead you to expect.
The ground floor Korean restaurant (Bamboo) is popular with locals although there are better places to eat elsewhere in Oxford.
It is a reasonably affordable place to stay in a city with very few cheap accommodation options.
The Royal Oxford Hotel has a convenient location if you’re arriving in Oxford by rail. Oxford railway station is only a three-minute walk away and the city centre is only a five to 10-minute walk away. It is an eight-minute walk to Carfax Tower, a nine-minute walk to the Ashmolean Museum and a 13-minute walk to the touristy part of the University of Oxford (where you can find the Bodleian Library, the Bridge of Sighs, the Radcliffe Camera and the University Church of St Mary the Virgin).
