Southampton Airport (SOU) is located just north of the city and it has domestic flights within the UK as well as flights to some of the more popular European holiday destinations.
Prior to March 2020, Southampton was the UK’s 18th-busiest airport with 90% of flights operated by Flybe. However, all Flybe flights were cancelled when the airline went bankrupt on 5 March 2020.
Some of Flybe’s routes have been replaced by Eastern Airways and Loganair with Eastern flying to Belfast City, Dublin and Manchester and Loganair flying from Southampton to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle.
British Airways have also recently launched flights from Southampton, replacing many of Flybe’s international routes with BA flying to Alicante, Bergerac, Chambéry, Dublin, Edinburgh, Faro, Limoges, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and Salzburg.
EasyJet have seasonal flights to Geneva, KLM flies between Southampton and Amsterdam and Aurigny and Blue Islands fly to the Channel Islands.
Facilities at Southampton Airport
Although it is only a small airport, it has all the amenities you would expect from an international airport including a few shops (including a WHSmith newsagent), a cafe, bars and a restaurant, a duty-free shop and a bureau de change.
If you have a Priority Pass membership Silver or Gold status with British Airways you have access to the Spitfire Lounge, which offers a quieter spot to wait for your flight with free food and drinks.
Getting to and from Southampton Airport
The airport is easily accessible with direct train connections to Southampton Airport Parkway railway station from London and Southampton. The train station is directly opposite the airport terminal making the train a quick and easy way to get to and from the airport.
Uni-link bus route U1 runs every 15 minutes from the airport to Southampton city centre and the waterfront (via the university).
