The Ainscow Hotel is in the renovated Brown Brothers Building in Salford. The building dates from 1878 and was originally built as the Watson & Woodhead brewery and became a jam factory for Mackie & Sons in the 1920s. The old industrial building makes it an interesting place to stay with more character than your average hotel.
They have done a great job restoring the old brick building and have managed to retain many of the industrial features including original brickwork and exposed beams.
The Ainscow is a relatively small hotel with 62 spacious guest rooms, all with comfortable beds, a work desk, flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, tea and coffee making facilities and en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are fairly spacious and many have kitchenettes and some of the larger rooms are spread over two levels.
Unusual for a hotel of this standard, the rooms don’t have mini-fridges nor do they have air conditioning. There are also some rooms with no windows.
All guests have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access.
The Lynwood Restaurant and Lounge on the third floor has an international menu. There’s a terrace that is a lovely place to enjoy a drink with city views.
The hotel also has a spa and gym.
Hemmed in by busy roads and a train line this is not the most attractive location for a four-star hotel, although the Salford area is experiencing a renaissance. Spinningfields (Manchester’s financial district) is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel and the Central Retail District is a 15-minute walk away. The closest railway station is Salford Central, which is less than a five-minute walk.
