Copthorne Hotel Manchester

Manchester’s Copthorne Hotel is a four-star hotel in the Salford Quays neighbourhood between Old Trafford and MediaCityUK.

The hotel’s 166 guest bedrooms are split between standard and club rooms, although there’s not much difference between the two room types.

Standard rooms come with a comfortable Hypnos double bed (or two single beds if you have a twin room), a television with premium channels, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities, a minibar, a small table/desk and an en-suite bathroom. Standard rooms are 25m² (269 sq ft).

Club rooms aren’t a big step up from the standard rooms – they’re the same size – and are essentially the same thing but with slightly nicer amenities and a few extras such as robes and slippers, although guests staying in club rooms usually get a buffet breakfast included in their room rate.

All guest rooms and public areas of the hotel have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access.

The hotel also includes a restaurant and bar. Clippers Brasserie has waterfront views and a menu with British and continental fare and Clippers Bar is a relaxing spot for a drink; however, it lacks the charm of other hotel bars and you’re better off walking to the pub up the road (although that’s not a particularly charming pub either).

It’s not as nice as other four-star hotels in Manchester and it is starting to feel a little dated, although this means that it is one of Manchester’s more affordable four-star hotels particularly if there is nothing on at Old Trafford. There are better accommodation options in Manchester including several three-star hotels that are much nicer than this four-star property.

Although the hotel has a suburban location, the quayside location is pleasant with some nice canalside walking paths and good transport connections to the city centre. Nearby attractions include Old Trafford football stadium, just a 10-minute walk away, and IWM North, The Lowry and The Quays outlet centre, which are all within a 15 to 20-minute walk from the hotel. It is a two-minute walk to Exchange Quay Metrolink tram stop, which has trams into the city centre.

Being located outside the city centre means that this hotel offers free parking, making it a good option if you’re driving.
