Travelodge Croydon Central

The Travelodge Croydon Central hotel is a good value accommodation option midway between central London and Gatwick Airport. It is a cheaper option than staying in the city centre and frequent trains can get you into central London in just half an hour.

Rooms at the Travelodge Croydon Central are a mix of double, twin and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.

There are also some wheelchair-accessible rooms available.

At this hotel, there is the option to pay a little extra to get a room on a quieter business floor.

Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods although in most cases this hotel is a cheaper alternative to more centrally-located hotels.

Croydon is a major hub in London’s southern suburbs. It is not a particularly attractive place and it doesn’t have the best reputation locally but it is generally nicer than what most Londoners will tell you. The local area has several big office blocks and a lot of hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs but the main attraction is the proximity to East Croydon station with its fast train services to central London and Gatwick Airport.

The hotel is less than a five-minute walk to East Croydon railway station (in zone 5) which has 25 trains per hour into central London (10 to London Victoria, 14 to London Bridge with eight of these continuing to City Thameslink and St Pancras and one to Kensington Olympia). The journey into central London can be as quick as 15 minutes although some trains take as long as 45 minutes.

Heading south, there are around 15 trains per hour to Gatwick Airport with some trains continuing onward to Brighton. There are also direct trains from here to Portsmouth and Southampton. Most trains to Gatwick take only 15 minutes but some take half an hour.

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
