Travelodge London City Airport

The Travelodge London City Airport hotel is the closest proper hotel to London City Airport and it a handy place to stay if you have an early or late flight. It is also a good value place to stay with good transport connections into central London and it is within walking distance to the ExCeL London exhibition and convention centre.

Rooms at the Travelodge London City Airport are a mix of double and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.

This hotel has been recently renovated with Travelodge’s new room design, which means that this hotel offers a superior standard of accommodation when compared with most other Travelodge hotels.

There are also some wheelchair-accessible rooms available.

In addition to standard rooms, this hotel also has SuperRooms, which are a bit like a premium economy room aimed at business travellers that don’t have the budget for a traditional business hotel. These rooms cost more and are bigger with a larger desk, more power points, a better shower and a Lavazza coffee pod machine. In many cases, SuperRooms are a big step up from a standard room at a Travelodge, although the new design of standard rooms at this hotel means that the difference is less noticeable here.

This hotel also has a small bar and restaurant but there are also plenty of places to eat nearby both inside the airport terminal and at the nearby exhibition centre.

Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods although in most cases this hotel is a cheaper alternative to more centrally-located hotels.

Although there are places to eat and drink within a 10-minute walk of the hotel, the immediate vicinity feels barren and not very walkable. It is set next to a car park near an airport access road so it is not the most charming location but it is handy to London City Airport (LCY) and the ExCeL London exhibition centre.

The airport terminal is a 10-minute walk away and ExCeL is a 10 to 15-minute walk from the hotel. The walk is not particularly nice and some people feel that it doesn’t feel particularly safe at night as there are no other people around.

Despite the relatively unattractive location, it is a fairly cheap hotel with good transport connections into central London and it is worth staying here even if you are not flying from LCY. The hotel is around a 10-minute walk from both Pontoon Dock and London City Airport DLR stations (both in zone three) although most people staying here use the London City Airport DLR station.

The London City Airport DLR station has trains to Bank in the City of London every 10 minutes as well as trains every 10 minutes to Stratford. It takes 22 minutes to travel between London City Airport and The City.

Parking is available at the hotel but it costs £9 for 24 hours.

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
