Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road

The Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road hotel is a budget hotel 2.4km (1½ miles) south of Oxford city centre. Like the other Travelodge in Oxford, this hotel is also located next to a park and ride facility but it somehow feels less remote and more like you’re actually in Oxford.

All of the rooms at this hotel are double rooms that include comfortable king-size beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.

In addition to standard double rooms, this hotel also has SuperRooms, which are a bit like a premium economy room aimed at business travellers that don’t have the budget for a traditional business hotel. These rooms cost an extra £15 and are bigger with a larger desk, more power points, a better shower and a Lavazza coffee pod machine.

This hotel is also air-conditioned, a feature that many Travelodge hotels don’t have.

Unlike most other hotels in Oxford, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be much more expensive staying here during peak periods.

This Travelodge is on the southern edge of Oxford next to the Redbridge park and ride facility. It is a residential area with not much in the immediate vicinity although there is a Tesco Express a four-minute walk north of here. It is a better location than Oxford’s other Travelodge hotel and you can walk into the city centre in just 30 minutes. However, the easiest way to get into central Oxford is by bus and the Oxford Bus Company’s park and ride 300 bus will take you into the city centre in 12 minutes. The bus fare into the city centre is £1.80 one-way or £2.60–2.80 return.

There is free parking at this hotel. If you’re staying at a busy time when all the parking spaces are taken, then you can park at the adjacent Redbridge park and ride parking facility (which costs £2 for 24 hours or £10 for a week).

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
