ibis Styles Reading Centre

The ibis Styles Reading Centre hotel is in an older building in the town centre that is one of Reading’s more central accommodation options. However, it does get mixed reviews and won’t appeal to everyone.

It is a small hotel with 52 rooms that start with the solo, just a single bed, and also include the duet room, with two single beds; the queen room, with a queen-size double bed and a family room, which comprises a double bed plus a separate single bed. There are also a few wheelchair-accessible rooms.

All rooms come with a flatscreen television, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. Some rooms are air-conditioned, but others are not.

There is no lift, which may be an issue if you have heavy luggage.

The hotel advertises free Wi-Fi wireless internet throughout but some guests claim that only rooms near the reception are able to get a good Wi-Fi signal.

The room rate includes a continental breakfast, which is served in the Indian restaurant on the ground floor.

In addition to the restaurant, the hotel also has a bar and meeting facilities.

The hotel has an Indian theme with the faint scent of Indian food from the Indian restaurant downstairs and Indian-themed photos on the walls. The decor won’t appeal to everyone and you get the impression that a little more effort could have been put into the design to bring it up to the standard set by some newer ibis Styles hotels.

The hotel has a great location right in the centre of Reading. It is only a two-minute walk to Broad Street, the River Kennet and the Oracle shopping centre, four minutes to Reading Museum and an eight-minute walk to Reading railway station.

Generally, ibis Styles are older hotels that have been brought into the ALL-Accor Live Limitless family and given a makeover and often have quite a unique design. In contrast to the company’s other affordable hotel brands (like ibis and ibis Budget) that have a certain cookie-cutter feel, ibis Style hotels can vary quite a bit from one hotel to another and some of them have a lot of character but it is often an aesthetic that doesn’t appeal to everyone. If you love one ibis Styles hotel you won’t necessarily love the next one you stay at.
