Travelodge The Regent Hotel Leamington Spa

Travelodge The Regent Hotel Leamington Spa is a centrally-located budget accommodation option in a historic Regency-era hotel.

It is an unusual hotel for a Travelodge. Rather than a modern purpose-built hotel like other hotels in the chain, this Travelodge is housed inside a historic Grade II*-listed building that is steeped in history.

It was opened in 1819 as Williams Hotel but was renamed the Regent Hotel just a few weeks later after being granted permission from the Prince Regent (who later became King George IV and after whom the Regency era is named). In its heyday, the Regent Hotel was Leamington Spa’s finest hotel and one of Europe’s largest.

In 1830, Princess Victoria (who would later become Queen Victoria) stayed in the hotel and eight years later it was from his hotel that she renamed the town Royal Leamington Spa. The hotel is also notable as the hotel where the Warwickshire County Cricket Club was founded.

In addition to hosting a young Queen Victoria, famous guests who have stayed at the hotel have included England’s national football team and the cast of Keeping Up Appearances.

Rooms at Travelodge The Regent Hotel Leamington Spa are a mix of double and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds (plus additional pull-out beds in the family rooms), a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower. Some wheelchair-accessible double/twin rooms are also available.

Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods.

It is located on The Parade in the town centre, just a four-minute walk from the Royal Pump Rooms. The town centre location means that there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop within a 5–10-minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is well placed if you’re travelling by public transport. Most local and regional buses stop outside the hotel and the railway station is a 10-minute walk away.

There is no parking available at this hotel but there is affordable overnight parking nearby (you can park overnight for just £1 as long as you park after 6pm and leave the car park by 8am the following morning).

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are familiar with.
