YOTEL London Shoreditch (formerly known as the East London Hotel) is a modernist-style hotel in a black brick building in Bethnal Green in East London. From the hotel, it is just a two-minute walk to Bethnal Green tube station and then a five-minute ride into the heart of The City.
The hotel has 161 guest rooms, which are all air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, a small ledge that could be used as a work desk, a large flatscreen television (with Apple TV), tea and coffee making facilities (including a Nespresso coffee machine) and an en suite bathroom with a power shower. Rooms are compact but well designed with space-saving design features such as under-bed storage.
Komyuniti is the hotel’s own bar and restaurant, which is a stylish space for something to drink or a bite to eat with a few quiet spaces where you can catch up on work. However, the main focus of the hotel is the rooms and you don’t have business or leisure facilities that you would often find in a hotel of this standard.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Although the Komyuniti is an improvement over the bar that operated when the hotel was called the East London Hotel, it is still best to venture outside if you’re looking for a substantial meal or a drink somewhere with more local character. Fortunately, the immediate neighbourhood has a good choice of places to eat and drink including bars and restaurants inside the Paradise Row railway arches and E Pellicci, a local restaurant that has been serving traditional English and Italian food for 120 years, is less than a 10-minute walk away.
Although it’s called the YOTEL London Shoreditch hotel, it is actually in Bethnal Green, a working-class East End neighbourhood that is becoming popular with hipsters who can’t afford to live in Shoreditch, a 20-minute walk to west.
It is right across the street from the Young V&A museum and excellent transport connections mean that it is quick and easy to get into central London from here.
Bethnal Green tube station (on the Central line) is just a two-minute walk from the hotel and Cambridge Heath Overground station is a five-minute walk in the other direction. Transport connections are excellent with trains running every couple of minutes with only a three-minute journey to Liverpool Street.
