The Arden Hotel

The Arden Hotel is a small upscale hotel right across the road from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and just a short walk from many of Stratford-upon-Avon’s Shakespeare-themed attractions.

The building is owned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and it is operated as part of the Small Luxury Hotels group, a chain of small independent upmarket hotels. It is a lovely historic building with plenty of character although some of the rooms are in a more modern annexe to the rear of the hotel.

The 45 air-conditioned guest rooms are each named after a different tree from the Forest of Arden. All rooms have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flatscreen television, a small fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. The en suites inside the classic rooms have a shower only, superior rooms have a shower over the bath and deluxe rooms have an en suite bathroom with a separate bathtub and walk-in shower. One of the ground floor rooms is adapted for guests with disabilities.

Classic rooms are 25m² (269 sq ft), superior and deluxe rooms are 30m² (323 sq ft).

The No 44 Waterside Brasserie is a well-regarded fine dining restaurant with a good value prix-fixe pre-theatre menu. The hotel also has a cosy Club Bar with comfortable tub chairs and a refined atmosphere. Both the restaurant and bar have access to a private terrace, which is a delightful spot in summer. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

The hotel is also a lovely spot for afternoon tea, which is served daily either in a traditional style lounge or on the terrace.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel has an excellent location on the edge of the town centre, right across the street from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, with The Play’s The Thing exhibition, Shakespeare’s New Place, the Guild Chapel and Shakespeare’s Schoolroom are all no more than a few minute’s walk from the hotel. From here, most points of interest in Stratford-upon-Avon are no more than a 10-minute walk away (except for the railway station, which is a 15-minute walk, and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, which is 25 minutes away).
