The Chapter House is a small hotel above a 16th-century pub that has been previously known as The Lazy Cow and before that, the King’s Arms.
The hotel has only 17 rooms, which range from a compact single room to more spacious executive family rooms. All rooms have comfortable beds, flatscreen televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom.
The building has a wattle and daub construction as is typical of the Tudor period and the hotel room decor includes original wood panelling that reflects the building’s 16th-century heritage.
The pub is a major part of the business and is a great spot for a drink or two. The menu goes beyond traditional pub grub (steaks, burgers and a Sunday roast) and it has a strong focus on South African cuisine with dishes like boerewors, biltong, bobotie and Durban-style curries.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel is just south of the city centre near the northeastern corner of the Cathedral Close. It is close to St Ann’s Gate, which is a quieter entrance to The Close compared with the much busier High Street Gate. Entering via St Ann’s Gate, Salisbury Cathedral is only a five-minute walk from the hotel as are most other points of interest within Cathedral Close including Arundells, Mompesson House, the Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum and the Salisbury Museum. Most areas of the city centre are also not much more than a five-minute walk away, although Fisherton Mill is an 11-minute walk away and it takes 15 minutes to walk to the railway station.Check prices and availability for The Chapter House
