The Hyatt Place London City East hotel offers a high standard of accommodation for a reasonable price. It has a convenient location in East London, within easy walking distance to the City.
The Hyatt Place London City East is a modern hotel that opened in mid-2021 and it is a step up from the Hyatt Place hotel at Heathrow Airport.
The 280 hotel rooms all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a large flatscreen telly, a small fridge, ironing facilities and en suite bathroom facilities. Tea and coffee making facilities are only available in the hotel’s premium rooms.
The hotel’s dining facilities include The Market, a small cafe that serves pastries and light snacks, Pocketsquare, a rooftop bar with city views, and Zoom, the hotel’s main restaurant. Although the food here is of a much higher standard than what you get in similar hotels, the coffee is from Starbucks but fortunately, the hotel’s East London location means that there are plenty of other options nearby for your morning coffee.
Guests staying at the Hyatt Place hotel have access to a small fitness centre.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Hyatt Place is Hyatt’s more design-focused brand which offers a slightly better value accommodation option than Hyatt’s main brands. There are not a lot of Hyatt hotels in the UK and this is one of the UK’s few Hyatt Place hotels.
Feedback from other guests suggests that Hyatt Place hotels in the UK (and outside the US in general) are of a considerably higher standard than Hyatt Place hotels in the USA. However, this may be because the Hyatt Place brand is much more established in the USA and, therefore the Hyatt Place hotels there are simply much older than what you find elsewhere.
Although Whitechapel is not the most attractive part of London, it becomes more gentrified the closer you get to The City and there are a lot of new flats and offices in the immediate vicinity around the hotel. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink and Brick Lane, which is noted for its excellent choice of Bangladeshi restaurants, is only a two-minute walk away.
You can walk to the edge of the City of London in just six minutes and many of the City’s top attractions are within a half-hour walk, including the Bank of England Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery, the City of London Police Museum, the Gherkin, the Monument, the Sky Garden, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
Aldgate East tube station is only a four-minute walk away and Aldgate and Whitechapel tube stations are both less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Aldgate East is in zone one and is served by the District and Hammersmith & City lines. From here it takes four minutes to get to Monument and 15 minutes to Westminster with trains running every 3–4 minutes and two minutes to Liverpool Street or 12 minutes to King’s Cross & St Pancras International with trains running every 10 minutes.
