Keswick bus station

Rated 1 out of 5

Although Keswick has no railway station, it is a busy transport hub for the northern Lake District with regular direct bus services to destinations in the Lake District including Ambleside, Buttermere, Cockermouth, Grasmere and Windermere as well as other destinations in Cumbria and neighbouring counties such as Carlisle, Lancaster and Penrith.

Stagecoach Gold bus routes X4 and X5 run stop in Keswick en route between Cockermouth and Penrith; buses 77 and 77A run a circular route taking in Derwent Water, Borrowdale, Buttermere and Crummock Water; bus 554 goes to Carlisle and bus 555 goes to Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal before continuing towards Lancaster.

The North West Megarider Gold is a good value pass that costs £28.50 and gives you seven days unlimited travel on Stagecoach buses throughout Cumbria and Lancashire and also includes some buses going as far afield as Chester, Liverpool and Newcastle upon Tyne.

Buses and coaches terminate at the bus station near Booths supermarket at the corner of Elliot Park and Crow Park Road.

The closest train station is in Penrith, which is served by bus routes X4 and X5.

    Bad service

Bus 555 from Keswick 14 June 21.@ 16:30pm. I an a visitor not knowing area, asked bus driver" how many stops to Castlerigg Hall camping site?" driver stated she didn't know depends on how many people get on and off. When we got to the stop we thought it might be my husband asked her if this was the right stop she replied she didn't know! We had no option but to get off the bus, we found this was not our stop and had to walk a further quarter of a mile up hill, this means that A. this companies drivers do not know their job B. she knew but thought it was funny to let people off at the wrong stop. Where I come from in County Durham, bus drivers are very friendly and helpful if the passenger doesn't now which stop to get off at the driver would give them a shout to let them know.
