The London Marriott Hotel Twickenham is a four-star hotel inside Twickenham rugby stadium in London’s southwestern suburbs. It is a great spot if you’re a rugby fan, although it is a bit pricey for a suburban hotel.
All rooms are air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, a minibar, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. There are also some suites, which are more spacious with separate living and sleeping areas.
The rooms are clean and well-maintained but the decor feels surprisingly dated for a relatively new hotel.
The best rooms are the pitch view suites which boast fantastic views of the pitch. Although you certainly pay a premium for these rooms you at least save on buying tickets for the match if you’re staying when there is a game on.
The hotel has a couple of bars and restaurants including the 22 South Restaurant and Lounge which serves a good, but overpriced, buffet breakfast as well as the Side Step Bar. For a four-star hotel, both venues offer relatively casual dining options and the bar is definitely geared towards sports fans and it is probably not the spot for you if you would rather not be surrounded by screens showing sport while trying to enjoy your drink.
The hotel also has a Virgin Active gym with an indoor swimming pool that all guests have access to.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout public areas but there is a charge to access the internet in your room. However, you can get free Wi-Fi access in your room if you are a member of the Marriot Bonvoy loyalty programme (which is free to join).
The location is ideal if you’ve come to Twickenham to see a rugby match but otherwise, your money could go further if you stayed somewhere else.
It is well-placed if you want to visit the World Rugby Museum or take a tour of the stadium although there are not any other attractions in the immediate area. It is a nice neighbourhood and it is a pleasant 15-minute walk into the centre of Twickenham where you can find plenty of shops and places to eat and drink.
Twickenham railway station is also a 15-minute walk from the hotel. The station (in zone five) has 12 trains per hour to London Waterloo as well as direct trains to Reading and Windsor and Eton Riverside. The journey to London Waterloo takes between 22 and 54 minutes depending on the train route and whether it is an express or not. Trains to Windsor take half an hour and Reading is an hour away.
Parking at the stadium’s West Car Park is free on non-game days.
