Mercure White Hart Hotel

The Mercure White Hart Hotel is a Grade II-listed Georgian building with a rich history and it has been visited by Charles Dickens, Sir Walter Raleigh and Mark Twain. Although it is not a particularly large hotel, it is one of the larger hotels in Salisbury’s city centre.

With 68 guest rooms, the Mercure is one of the larger hotels in the city centre. All the rooms feature comfortable beds, a flat-screen television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. Most rooms, except the tiny 9m² (97 sq ft) single rooms, also have a work desk or coffee table.

The decor in the hotel’s public areas highlights the historic nature of the 18th-century building while the rooms have more contemporary decor with a cream and brown colour scheme. Some guests say that the rooms look a little dated, however, most of these have been refurbished during 2020. There is also a lovely inner courtyard area and many of the rooms look into the courtyard rather than onto the street.

The hotel has its own in-house bar and restaurant. Squire’s Restaurant has an international menu with a focus on traditional British cuisine and the hotel’s Spire’s Bar where you can enjoy a cream tea or something stronger. The restaurant is closed on Saturdays but the hotel’s central location means that there are plenty of other options nearby for somewhere to eat or drink.

The hotel is located at the southeastern end of the city centre with most points of interest in the city centre no more than a five-minute walk away. It is also close to Salisbury Cathedral and the attractions inside the cathedral close, which are also within a five-minute walk from the hotel. Being located on the outside of The Close’s northeast corner means that hotel guests can enter the close via the quieter St Ann’s Gate.

The hotel is around a 15-minute walk to the railway station.
