Swan’s Nest Hotel

The Swan’s Nest Hotel is a 17th-century hotel within an easy walk of most points of interest in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The hotel is a Grade II-listed building that dates from around 1673. It was one of the first brick buildings in Stratford and was originally known as The Bear, a name that has been retained by the hotel’s bar.

The 72 hotel rooms all have comfortable beds, a writing desk, a flatscreen television, ironing facilities, a small fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom.

The rooms have traditional decor that fits with the building’s historical aspect. While this style of decor can sometimes come across as looking dated, the interior design has been handled very well and it makes the Swan’s Nest a great place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere with a bit more charm than a run-of-the-mill hotel.

The hotel also has a restaurant and bar that stand above what you would normally find in a hotel at this price range.

Although it is a chain restaurant, Bistrot Pierre is a step up from your average hotel restaurant with a modern take on French classic dishes. The focus on French cuisine is a nice change from the lack of focus that you often find in hotel restaurants.

Despite the French focus of its lunch and dinner menus, the restaurant also offers a hearty full English breakfast as well as afternoon tea.

The Bear is more of a traditional local pub than your regular hotel bar and it is well worth a visit even if you’re not staying at the hotel. It is a free house with an excellent selection of beer on tap including cask ales, craft ale and lager plus a menu of traditional pub meals.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel is just across Clopton Bridge on the eastern side of the River Avon. It is close to the butterfly farm, the Recreation Grounds, the Stratford Big Wheel and Avon Boating, where you can take sightseeing cruises on the river. It is only a five-minute walk into the town centre and most points of interest are no more than a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Parking is available for £5 per day.
