The Travelodge Canterbury Chaucer Central hotel is a good value accommodation option on the southwestern edge of Canterbury city centre, not far from St Augustine’s Abbey.
Rooms at the Travelodge Canterbury Chaucer Central are a mix of single, double, twin and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds (except single and twin rooms, which have single beds), a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower. Some wheelchair-accessible rooms are also available.
This is an older Travelodge, which used to be called the Chaucer Hotel, but it is modern and well maintained inside. It also has a small lounge bar/cafe in the hotel; however, the cafe lacks character and most guests pop over to a nearby pub (the Two Sawyers is only a one-minute walk from here) for a drink and a bite to eat.
Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.
Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods; however, in most cases this hotel remains better value than most other places to stay in Canterbury.
The hotel is southwest of Canterbury city centre, less than a five-minute walk from St Augustine’s Abbey and most other points of interest are within easy walking distance including the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge, Canterbury Cathedral and the Roman Museum, which are all within a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
The bus station is a four-minute walk from the hotel, Canterbury East railway station is a 10-minute walk and Canterbury West station is a 16-minute walk away.
Car parking is available for £6 per 24-hour period.

Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
