The Travelodge London Central Bank hotel has a very central location in the heart of the City of London. Considering the price of other hotels in this part of London, it is a good value place to stay but it is also one of the more expensive Travelodge hotels.
Rooms at the Travelodge London Central Bank are a mix of single, double and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.
This hotel has been recently renovated with Travelodge’s new room design, which means that this hotel offers a superior standard of accommodation when compared with most other Travelodge hotels.
There are also some wheelchair-accessible rooms available.
In addition to standard rooms, this hotel also has SuperRooms, which are a bit like a premium economy room aimed at business travellers that don’t have the budget for a traditional business hotel. These rooms cost more and are much bigger with a larger desk, more power points, a better shower and a Lavazza coffee pod machine.
Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.
Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods. It is more expensive than most other Travelodge hotels but it still represents good value when compared with other hotels in this part of London.
This Travelodge is located on a quiet laneway in the heart of the City of London. The City is London’s financial district and it is also the oldest part of London with many interesting things to see and do dating back as far as the Roman period. Nearby attractions include the Bank of England Museum and the Monument, both within a five-minute walk of the hotel, and Guildhall, the City of London Police Museum and St Paul’s Cathedral are all within a 10-minute walk. A 15-minute walk from the hotel will take you to the Tower of London and the attractions in the Bankside neighbourhood (south of London Bridge), which include Borough Market, the Clink Prison Museum, the Golden Hinde, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Southwark Cathedral and the View from the Shard.
There are a lot of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs within a short walk from the hotel; however, the location in the financial district means that some of these may be closed on weekends.
The hotel is very close (just a two-minute walk) to Cannon Street railway station and both London Bridge and Fenchurch Street stations are a 12-minute walk from the hotel.
The closest tube stations are Cannon Street (Circle and District lines) and Bank (Central, Northern and Waterloo & City lines plus access to the DLR and Monument station) which are just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Both stations are in zone one. From Bank, you can get to Oxford Circus in just seven or eight minutes and you can get to Westminster from Cannon Street in just eight minutes.
There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
