Looking like a low budget replica of the Eiffel Tower, the 171m-high Blackpool Tower was erected in 1894 by a London businessman impressed by the original, which he saw in Paris in 1880.

Carfax Tower, officially St Martin’s Tower, in the centre of Oxford is all that remains of the 12th-century Church of St Martin, which was demolished in 1820 after it was discovered that the building was unstable. It was replaced by another church but this was also demolished, this time in 1896 so that nearby roads could be widened to allow space for more traffic in the area.

The distinctive 160m (525 ft) skyscraper in the City of London commonly known as the Walkie Talkie, but officially called 20 Fenchurch Street, features a public park on its top three floors offering brilliant views over London.

Up at The O2 is the name of the experience that lets you climb up the walkway on the top of the O2 Arena in North Greenwich. The experience can be compared to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, but on a tent instead of a bridge.

The IFS Cloud Cable Car (formerly the Emirates Air Line) is an aerial cable car that operates between North Greenwich and Royal Victoria Dock (near the ExCeL convention and exhibition centre). It is an unusual transport option considering that there simply aren’t many people that need to commute between North Greenwich and Royal Docks and it is an unusual spot for a tourist ride as the views over the Docklands aren’t quite as spectacular as views over central London. However, it is a relatively affordable scenic ride and there usually aren’t any queues.

From a distance the ArcelorMittal Orbit – also called the Orbit Tower – looks a lot like an amusement park ride, but it is actually a sculpture/observation tower that looks out over the London 2012 Olympic site in Stratford.
